Keshi – and the vanities of a false Guru Thakur Bhaktivinode wrote in his book, Sri Krishna Samhita 7.Verse 29: bhakti-teje samriddhyat tu svotkarsha-jnanavan narah kadacid daiva-buddhyatu keshi-citram avamanyate (29) When a person becomes enriched with the power of devotion, he may sometimes gain a sense of his own superiority. Then, through the corruption of their understanding, the strange demon Keshi arises and leads him to disregard the Lord. When the practitioner becomes enriched with the splendour of devotion, the demon Keshi, horse-like in form and representing the consciousness of one’s own superiority, may enter Braja and create great disturbance. By continually reflecting upon one’s own excellences, an egotist’s mood of disregard toward Bhagavan can arise, and this will cause the Vaishnava to fall down. Therefore it is most necessary that the evil disposition of egotism should not find a residence in the heart of a Vaishnava. Even when devotion becomes highly developed, the quality of humility must never depart from the Vaishnava character. If it does, then the slaying of Keshi becomes necessary. This is the eighteenth obstacle blocking attainment of prema-bhakti.
