Arista – the bull of Dharma, may begin acting wrong Thakur Bhaktivinode wrote in Sri Krishna Samhita, chapter 7 Verse indriyani bhajanty eke tyaktva vaidha-vidhim shubham navame vrishabhas te ‘pi nashyante krishna-tejasa (21) Some souls on the path of devotion abandon the auspicious rules of vaidhi practice and engage in ostentatious worship with the aim of satisfying their own senses. These, as the bull-demon who personifies the ninth obstacle to bhagavad-bhakti, are destroyed by the power of Krishna. Many people with weak minds abandon the path of regulated worship and prematurely attempt to enter the path of raga. Being unable to realize the spiritual attachment that belongs to the soul, spellbound by material attachments, they practise rituals while retaining their wrongful attachment to material objects, thus behaving like Vrishabha-asura, the bull-demon. By Krishna’s power, these people who think they practice jaiva-dharma are destroyed. Examples of this obstacle may be seen every day, epitomised by self-indulgent hypocrites and brahmanas who make a show of their status as religious authorities, but who harbour the intention of amassing wealth and followers.
